WHEN TO REPAIR YOUR FURNACE
Furnaces require regular maintenance to ensure they work properly when the brutal winter weather strikes. But even on the most dedicated maintenance schedules, you may need a repair on your unit.
Here are some circumstances when you should call a professional HVAC company right away to help repair your furnace:
- If the burner flame or pilot light turns yellow. These flames are typically blue, so if the color changes, you should call a professional. A yellow flame can indicate carbon monoxide in your home.
- Your energy bills are higher than normal. A malfunctioning furnace can cost a lot to run and maintain. Getting it running smoothly allows for more efficient and cost-effective energy bills.
- Strange noises are coming from your furnace. If you hear strange noises, like banging or a “THUMP,” call an HVAC company to check it out.
- Your furnace breaks down often. If your furnace stops working or producing heat, it’s time to call a professional repair team.
- Your unit is older than 15 years. If you have an aged furnace, you should have a team check on it at least annually. You may consider replacing your furnace as well.
If you have any concerns about your furnace or feel that something isn’t quite right, give us a call, and we’ll be happy to look it over for you.
FURNACE MAINTENANCE & REPAIR TIPS
Not every furnace maintenance task requires a professional. There are some simple steps that you can try on your own before you give us a call.
If your furnace isn’t working properly, try these quick tips first:
- Make sure your thermostat is set to the “heat” setting.
- Check to see if your thermostat needs new batteries.
- Change the temperature on your thermostat.
- Make sure your furnace is “on”–sometimes you may need to find the switch and turn it “off” and then back “on.”
- Replace or clean the filter–an accumulation of dirt can prevent it from working at top capacity.
- Check for a tripped circuit breaker.
- Make sure your air vents are open.
- Check the vent pipes outside your home for blockages.
If you’ve tried these quick tips and still have problems with your furnace, it’s time to call a professional to diagnose and fix the issue.
