Ductless Air Solutions

When you want to cool or heat a specific room in your home, a ductless air system is just the solution that you need. At Baseline Heating, we install ductless air solutions into homes across the Greater Milwaukee area.

WHAT IS DUCTLESS AIR?

Ductless air is a type of air system that functions without ducts. One external unit powers the system, and it can connect with up to four internal units through refrigerant and electrical connections.

Baseline Heating provides Daikin mini split ductless air systems. A mini split system is a ductless air system with one outdoor unit and one indoor unit. These are perfect for remodels where you need to install heating and A/C into a room without ducts, like converting a garage to a game room.

HOW DOES A DUCTLESS AIR SYSTEM WORK?

Most people are familiar with the concept of central air, where the air comes from one centrally-located indoor unit that spreads air through the entire home through ducts and vents.

A ductless air system functions a little differently. There is a “central” unit that basically powers each indoor unit of the system. That’s the outdoor unit.

The outdoor unit is connected to each indoor unit through refrigerant tubing and electrical wiring (usually run through your walls).

The outdoor unit has a condenser, compressor, and coil fan. The indoor unit has an evaporator coil and blower fan.

The outdoor unit will pump refrigerant through the tubing to the indoor unit. As the liquid refrigerant is pumped inside, the evaporator coil from the indoor unit will turn the refrigerant to gas and remove heat and humidity from the indoor air blowing across the coil. This allows it to send cooler air into the room.

Ductless air systems that provide heat function similarly; they just have the capability to reverse the process so they can heat up a room as well.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DUCTLESS AIR?

Beyond not needing ductwork to function, ductless air offers several benefits for your home. These include:

  • Operates quietly–you don’t need to worry about noisy fans.
  • Humidity control–running A/C and heat in your home helps reduce the moisture in the air.
  • Design flexibility–ductless air units can be installed on walls or ceilings.
  • Better indoor air quality–ductless air systems can remove indoor air pollutants and deodorize the air.
  • Lower carbon footprint–the refrigerants in ductless systems are ozone-friendly.
  • Lower electrical bills–ductless systems are very energy efficient.
  • Quick installation–because they don’t require ductwork, ductless systems can be installed in a matter of hours.
